Bhagvad Gita Chapter 1 - At a Glance
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1 - A Glance
The root cause of all sorrow and suffering is lack of mindfulness and conflict resolution in our daily lives, especially in adverse situations.
The first chapter of the Bhagvad Gita is titled Arjunavisadayoga = Arjuna's grief and consists of 47 verses.
This takes place in the battle field of Kurukshetra where 2 mighty armies are facing each other for the most ferocious and devastating war of the time till then!! The biggest irony being, the primary opposing sides are first cousins, hence the fight is "within family".
A parallel can be drawn to our lives in the present time. Our mind juggling the challenges and conflicts are no less than the battle field of Kurukshetra itself!! Our conflicts are mostly with "self" followed by near and dear ones.
Verse 1 = Sloka 1 starts with Dhritarashtra (visually blind King) who is in the Palace asking Sanjay (Charioteer and Advisor)for a status update on the war that's about to start.
The Verses can be grouped into following:
- Only way to achieve success is staying focused on the Goal.
- Fear and insecurity comes from wrong-doing, so stay away!!
- Stick to high moral values. Simple living and high thinking!!
- In life, change is the only constant. Embrace it.
- Serve selflessly for the greater good of the Community--> State--> Nation--> Universe
- Control your emotions for right decision making. A grief stricken mind tend to give up and fall deeper into grief.
- One's Power, talent, and skill amounts to ZERO if one is not righteous in practice.
- Unrighteousness causes bitterness and hatred which is a huge road block for right action.
- Ignorant people stick to their views and not open to see the truth and hence FALL at the end.
