Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2 - Introduction

With Sanjay's last statement from Chapter 1 verse 47 Dhritarashtra had a shy of relief that the war may not happen after all!! He was almost smirking inside his head as he thought he is in a win-win situation.
It's almost like seeing a car coming at you head-on and you are telling yourself, no the car will not hit me and turn away!! This also represents wrong Design Thinking. The King knew even before the war that his Kingship and all his sons are headed to destruction. But he was in complete denial and had made up his mind with the most absurd justification!!
With Arjuna's present state of mind, Dhritarashtra was convincing himself that his son Duryodhana will get everything. The peace loving Pandavas will just go back to living in the forest. This also symbolizes a person who is blind internally. No one with a logical mind should expect that this war was not happening. Even though Arjuna backed out, Bhima would have never backed out.
Little did Dhritarashtra know what was about to follow once Bhagavan Krishna opened his mouth!!
Chapter 2 is considered as essence of the entire Gita as it summarizes rest of the chapters. It's also one of the longest chapters with 72 verses. It can be grouped into 5 sections:
- Verse 1-10 : Arjuna's problem and surrender to Lord Krishna.
- Verse 11-25 : Atma and Anatma description.
- Verse 26-37: Logic meaning (Yukti) in line with Kshatriya Dharma.
- Verse 38-53: Practice of Nishkama Karma. Karma Yoga.
- Verse 24-72: Path of Renunciation.
These may sound complicated but if understood, these applies to everyday life for us. Because, our daily activities are no less than a war!!
