It is said by many great commentators of Gita that the actual teaching starts from this verse and the entire message of the Gita is embedded in this verse (sloka).  Hence, this verse (sloka) is referred as the BIJA (seed) verse of the Bhagavad Gita.

In the present day, the Human race has accomplished great advancement in many areas!!  There is  artificial intelligence and automation everywhere.   It should be understood that nothing can replace built in natural intelligence in all living creatures (plants/animals/humans).   Each and every human has a unique mind and intellect that acts according to its own experiences and traits.  Logic and reasoning should be used for decision making which is unique to each human being.

Bhagavan starts by explaining the basics.

Existence (Sat), Consciousness (Chit), and Bliss (Ananda) are built in to each and every human being.  Most of the time, we do not realize this because of our ignorance (Avidya).  We fail to recognize the built in mechanism.

We are always attached to only Name and Form.  This attachment is so strong that it overpowers the natural bliss with in us.  We can't even help it even if we are aware that Name and Form is temporary.

Attachment to Name and Form give rise to:
  • Sorrow
  • Expectations that will never be met
  • Inferiority Complex
  • Superiority Complex
  •  Greed
  • Anger etc.
Attachment to Name and Form is not a light switch that can be turned off.  It is a slow and steady process of practice (Sadhana).  But this attachment runs our lives every moment of our existence.

Arjuna had this Dilemma and he had Bhagavan Krishna as his mentor was able to make him understand this concept.  We on the other hand have to invoke the Krishna within us in time of conflict.
